Training hints and tips on booking courses for Early Years, Childminders and Childcare settings
Hints and Tips
How do I book onto a safeguarding training course?
Each professional who needs to complete online or attend face-to-face training needs to register and book onto a course via the online training/booking system: http://www.oscb.org.uk/booking-training/
I need to book a course for multiple staff members; can I book all at once?
No. Each individual needs to have their own learner record and only one place can be allocated on each course via their account.
How do I know which course is relevant for me?
OSCB run a separate course for early years/childminders/playworkers. These courses are listed as the following on the online booking system:
– Generalist Safeguarding Training (early years, childminders and childcare settings)
– Designated Lead Safeguarding Training (early years, childminders and childcare settings)
– Safer Recruitment (early years, childminders and childcare settings)
To ensure you meet your safeguarding responsibilities and keep up to date on current issues we recommend you review other OSCB training on offer, for example: Child Sexual Exploitation, Safer working practices, E-safety.
I cannot attend the course for early years in the evening/weekend?
You can book onto one of the multi-agency courses which we run Tuesday – Thursday during the day. These courses are not specific to early years and you will be training alongside practitioners from health, social care etc. so you may not have the opportunity to discuss sector specific issues in as much detail as you would on the Early Years courses
I can no longer attend a course I’ve booked onto?
You will need to cancel your place ASAP via the online training/booking system and give as much notice as you can so your place can be allocated to another delegate. If you do not notify us and do not turn up on the day of the course there will be a charge for non-attendance.
The date my colleague booked on is not showing when I try to book?
If the date is not showing on the date’s list, this will be because the course is fully booked. Please do not turn up on the day with a colleague as you will be turned away.
The system is showing ‘no dates available’?
This will be because all of the existing courses are fully booked and new dates are in the process of being arranged. Please continue to monitor the system for places to become available on existing courses due to cancellations or for new dates to be added.
8. When booking a course I’m being asked to enter a cost. How much is the course?
All of our courses are currently free of charge to attend. Enter ‘0’ into the cost box. The cost though to the service for the Early Years specific courses is £30 per delegate.
What happens after I submit the course request?
E-learning courses are allocated immediately, and will appear on your ‘Active Learning’ tab on your learner dashboard. For face to face training events, the request will stay on the Requested Learning tab until your attendance is confirmed by the event administrator. When your attendance has been approved for the date you requested, you will receive an email confirmation.
I have been on the course, how do I get my certificate of attendance?
After the Event Manager has marked you “Present” on the register, you will need to login to your learner record and complete a final evaluation question. You can then print off your certificate of attendance.
